Authorities in Shillong confirmed that the body of a 15‑year‑old girl from Uttar Pradesh was recovered on Thursday morning after she fell into a waterfall in Meghalaya’s Sohra area while attempting to take photographs. The teenager had gone missing on Wednesday after reportedly slipping into one of the deep natural pools at Wei Sawdong Falls, a popular tourist destination known for its striking scenery. Search operations were carried out throughout the day but were suspended after sunset without success.
Rescue teams resumed efforts the following morning and successfully recovered the girl’s body. Officials noted that the incident underscores the dangers posed by the rugged terrain and slippery surfaces at the site, which attracts large numbers of visitors each year. The tragedy has raised concerns about tourist safety and the need for greater awareness and precautions at natural attractions in the region.
