A shocking incident has emerged from the Ri-Bhoi district, where a newborn baby girl was allegedly buried alive but rescued in time by schoolchildren. The incident occurred in Mawhati, when students noticed disturbed soil and, upon checking, discovered the infant buried beneath it. Acting swiftly, they dug her out and rushed her for immediate medical attention.
The baby was first taken to the Mawhati Primary Health Centre and later referred to Civil Hospital, Nongpoh, where she is currently undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit. Doctors have described her survival as remarkable given the critical condition in which she was found.
The incident gained widespread attention after a rescue video went viral on social media, sparking public outrage and concern over child safety. Authorities have launched an investigation to identify those responsible, while local residents have praised the schoolchildren for their courage, crediting them with saving the newborn’s life.
