US President Donald Trump informed lawmakers that the war against Iran has “terminated” as the 60‑day legal deadline under the War Powers Resolution expired. In a letter to congressional leaders, he noted there had been no exchange of fire since April 7, adding that hostilities launched on February 28 had ended. The move comes amid debate over whether Congress should have approved the military action, which was formally notified on March 2.
Trump said negotiations with Iran remain uncertain, stressing he is “not satisfied” with current proposals. He described Iran’s leadership as fragmented and disjointed, claiming internal divisions were weakening Tehran’s negotiating position. He also asserted that Iran’s military had been significantly degraded, with limited naval and air capabilities following the recent conflict.
Despite sharp rhetoric, Trump emphasized a preference for diplomacy, saying he would rather pursue a deal than escalate militarily. However, he made clear that military action remains an option if talks fail, outlining a choice between negotiation and renewed force.
