Awareness on FMD, free vaccination

A one-day animal awareness camp-cum-free anti-rabies vaccination drive was organised at Kijümetouma village on May 1 under the initiative of the Kijümetouma Village Youth and Sports Organization (KVY&SO) in collaboration with the office of the Chief Veterinary Officer (CVO), Kohima, Chiephobozou block.
The programme was led by Jt. Director Dr. Elizabeth Yhome and Veterinary Assistant Surgeon Dr. N. Suokhrie, supported by para-veterinary staff and personnel from the Veterinary Health Centre, Kijümetouma. During the camp, 40–50 dogs were administered free anti-rabies vaccines, while around 20–30 animal farmers benefited. In her address, Dr. Yhome highlighted the importance of animal husbandry, particularly rabbit and livestock rearing for white meat and dairy production. She encouraged villagers to view cattle rearing as a viable means of income and entrepreneurship capable of transforming rural economies.
