Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav was formally inducted as Chief Patron of the Nagaland State Bharat Scouts and Guides (NSBSG) at a ceremony held at Lok Bhavan, Kohima, on Saturday.
Addressing the gathering, the Governor said he accepted the role with humility and responsibility, describing it as a privilege to be associated with a movement that has shaped the character, discipline and leadership qualities of young people for decades. He emphasised that the position was not merely ceremonial but a commitment to support and nurture youth, whom he termed the future of the state and nation.
Highlighting the voluntary, non-political and educational nature of the Bharat Scouts and Guides, Yadav noted that the movement, founded by Lord Baden Powell in 1907, continues to inspire generations worldwide through its emphasis on discipline, self-reliance, service and leadership. He observed that NSBSG, established in 1967, has steadily expanded across districts, positively influencing young people in Nagaland.
Addressing Scouts and Guides present, the Governor urged them to uphold the Scout Promise and Law in their daily lives, encouraging honesty, kindness and courage. He assured his full support to strengthen and expand the movement in Nagaland and called upon educational institutions and stakeholders to contribute actively to its growth.
Advisor for Youth Resources and Sports, S Keoshu Yimchunger, delivering the keynote and welcome address, described the occasion as historic, stating that the induction of the Governor as Chief Patron marked a significant milestone for NSBSG. He said the Governor’s leadership and commitment to public service would inspire Scouts and Guides to uphold the highest ideals of discipline, service and nation-building.
Keoshu highlighted that the Bharat Scouts and Guides movement, spread across 216 countries with over 56 million members, stands as a beacon of character-building and unity. He added that in Nagaland, the movement continues to nurture resilience and service among youth, reflecting the state’s vibrant culture and strong community values.
Earlier, the programme was compered by Joint State Secretary NSBSG Temsurenla Ao, while the vote of thanks was delivered by State Chief Commissioner NSBSG Chubanungla.
