DNSU flags illegal land mutation, demands probe

DIMAPUR, MAY 4 (NPN)

Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) has condemned the alleged illegal mutation and transfer of land under Patta No. 890, which it said had already been cancelled on November 23, 2009, vide DC Order No. REV-20/008-D/8979-83.
In a press release, DNSU president Hinoto P. Aomi and general secretary Michael Kath alleged that despite the cancellation, the land was unlawfully mutated through tampering of the original Field Chitha Book (2012) and transferred to the names of Girdharlal Sharma, Bajrang Lal Pareek and Kumar Sharma.
The union termed the act a serious violation of law and administrative integrity, and claimed that the individuals involved did not possess valid Indigenous Certificates, raising grave concerns over the legality and legitimacy of such transactions. It further alleged that the land was procured from Nirmal Jain through benami transactions using local names under questionable circumstances.
DNSU said it had earlier exposed Girdharlal Sharma, Dr. Sundar Pareek and Vinod Kumar Sharma in the media and warned against any attempt to facilitate such illegal transfers. It stated that the issue was not merely a land dispute but concerned the rights and interests of the Naga people. The union said land and its resources were intrinsic to the existence of the Nagas and asserted that it would not allow external elements to exploit or encroach upon what rightfully belonged to the people. It stated that while population may increase, land remained finite and must be protected with utmost vigilance.
In this regard, DNSU appealed to the government and concerned authorities to immediately halt any issuance, mutation or transfer of the said land until the matter was thoroughly investigated and resolved. It also demanded strict legal action against those involved and called for identification and seizure of lands acquired through illegal or benami means for public interest. DNSU reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding Naga land and rights.
