A workshop on the development of assessment items based on the indicators of the National Professional Standards for Teachers (NPST) under Performance Assessment, Review and Analysis of Knowledge for Holistic Development (PARAKH )was conducted at SCERT, Kohima, on May 1 and 2, 2026.
According to DIPR, the programme was organised by SCERT Nagaland with participation from the Department of School Education (DoSE), eight DIETs and SCERT faculty.
Aligned with the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, NPST seeks to enhance the quality of teaching and strengthen the education system. The workshop was designed to provide valuable inputs not only at the national level, particularly to NCERT, but also to strengthen Nagaland’s education system, especially for teachers.
Over two days, participants developed assessment items reflecting classroom realities through careful thought and contextual understanding. The NPST, developed by the National Council for Teacher Education, was highlighted as a landmark framework that defines expectations for quality teaching and outlines a structured pathway for professional growth.
The workshop aimed to deepen understanding of NEP 2020’s vision for teachers and their assessment, to comprehend the structure, standards and performance indicators of the NPST Guiding Document 2023, and to design high-quality, valid, reliable and bias-free assessment items aligned with NPST indicators. It also sought to build practical skills in item creation as part of Continuous Professional Development (CPD).
