MUSIK-A celebrates 10th anniversary

MUSIK-A celebrated its 10th anniversary on Tuesday at Town Hall, Dimapur, with Governor of Nagaland, Nand Kishore Yadav gracing the occasion as chief guest, while managing director, Okusa Toyota and former minister Y. Vikheho Swu, and former MLA Khriehu Liezietsü, attended as special guests.
Addressing the gathering, Yadav described the milestone as “a testament to dedication, passion, and the unifying power of music”, and noted that over the past decade, MUSIK-A has emerged as a vibrant platform for musicians, nurturing young talent and fostering creativity across generations.
Highlighting Nagaland’s rich musical heritage, he said music transcends barriers of language, tribe, and background, and commended the institute for embodying this spirit.
The Governor also lauded founder Alobo Naga for his vision and perseverance in building the institution, stating that sustaining a creative movement for a decade required both courage and commitment.
He encouraged young artistes to pursue music with discipline, adding that art carries a responsibility to inspire and uplift society.
Delivering his message, Y. Vikheho Swu reflected on MUSIK-A’s journey from a modest rented space to a premier music institute. Recalling his early encounters with Alobo, he commended his stage presence and dedication, noting that while talent was common, transforming it into meaningful impact requires perseverance.
He further highlighted the institute’s role in preserving Naga cultural heritage, particularly through documentation and promotion of folk traditions. Stressing the importance of safeguarding indigenous identity amid rapid modernization, Swu said MUSIK-A has the potential to serve as a bridge between tradition and modernity. He also commended its outreach to underprivileged sections, describing the initiative as a reflection of service rooted in strong values and faith.
In his speech, Khriehu Liezietsü expressed gratitude in witnessing the institute’s growth since its inauguration a decade ago, and regarded MUSIK-A as one of the state’s leading music institutions.
He lauded Alobo Naga’s continued contribution to the music community and extended congratulations to the faculty, students, and supporters, expressing hope that the institute would continue to grow in the years ahead.
Delivering the keynote address, director, MUSIK-A,Alobo Naga shared the origins of MUSIK-A, stating that the idea was born out of a desire to give back to society after gaining exposure to the music industry beyond the state.
Founded in 2016 with the motto “to share, educate, and be enriched”, he said the institute has since trained over a thousand youths in music education, live sound, and recording arts.
He informed that MUSIK-A has organised more than 250 events across the state and Assam, while also supporting over 250 young individuals through sponsorship initiatives.
Emphasising that the institute goes beyond music, he said it also focused on holistic development, including education, cultural promotion, and even sports training to build discipline and character.
Highlighting the importance of preserving identity, he said music remains a powerful medium to celebrate and share Naga traditions with the world.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by Kekhrie Ringa Jakha, invocation was offered by pastor, Thilixu Village Baptist Church, Rev Khetoi Shikhu, and benediction by pastor, Lhomithi Baptist Church, Toluho.
Highlights of the programme included special numbers by Kekhrie Ringa Jakha, music teachers, MUSIK-A, Linika Shikhu, and school anthem by staff and students of MUSIK-A School. (Staff Reporter)
