Naga Council Dimapur calls for end to Kuki-Tangkhul conflict

Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) has appealed to Kuki and Tangkhul communities to immediately shun violence and confrontation, warning against a path of self-destruction.
In a press release, NCD president GK Rengma and general secretary Peter Anal urged Christian tribal leaders from both communities to pursue dialogue so that peace and harmony could prevail amid the ongoing conflict. The council said the violence in Manipur, which began three years ago, continued to escalate, driven by hatred and prejudice, with truth and objectivity becoming casualties of competing narratives.
Recalling its past role, NCD stated that it had acted as a mediator during the spill-over of Kuki-Naga conflict in Peren district in the 1990s and would continue its efforts to promote peace, restitution and reconciliation based on Christian values. The council appealed to citizens and leaders of the affected communities to respond to the urgency of the situation and work towards complete cessation of the cycle of ethnic violence for the sake of humanity and future generations.
