Kuzha Tephe Public Organization (KTPO) has strongly opposed the proposed installation of a radar system by the Indian Air Force at Pfutsero under Phek district, describing it as a serious threat to the local ecology, environment, and Naga land rights.
In a press note, KTPO president Kedoutso Thahu and press secretary Elika Mero stated that the project posed irreversible environmental damage to the fragile highland ecosystem. They also expressed concern over potential deforestation, soil erosion, contamination of water sources, loss of biodiversity, and adverse impacts from high-frequency emissions. The organisation condemned the “opaque land transactions” through which the land was allegedly transferred to the Indian Air Force without consent of the public.
KTPO demanded full transparency regarding the land sale process and questioned its legality under Article 371A of the Indian Constitution, which protects Naga land and customary rights. It asserted that any alienation of Naga land without the explicit consent of the district council and competent authorities violated constitutional safeguards and customary laws. KTPO announced an urgent consultation and cross-examination with the landowners involved. The organisation warned it would expose any procedural violations and rally communities to protect their ancestral land.
KTPO called upon all Nagas, civil society organisations, and right-thinking citizens to unite against the project and uphold the protections guaranteed under Article 371A. KTPO reiterated its commitment to non-violent resistance and constitutional advocacy “ensuring Pfutsero remains an example, free from militaristic impositions.”
