DIMAPUR: Pathso Range Students’ Union (PRSU), Noklak, conducted an area tour from April 29 to May 4, 2026 to inspect and assess the functioning of government institutions in Pathso range. The Union observed both commendable community initiatives and instances of negligence during the inspection.
In a press release, PRSU president L. Pukho Khiamniungan and general secretary Khumong noted that communities have taken positive steps to improve schools by providing basic infrastructure and appointing community teachers. Examples include GPS Yokao, where two community teachers are supported by government-appointed teachers and Yokao Baptist Tuathi along with citizens in Dimapur; GMS Tsuwao, which has a Hindi teacher sponsored by the community; and GMS Lengnyu, where two community teachers are sponsored by the Village Council. Similar support was noted at GMS Pathso Nokeng and GPS Ekhao.
Despite these efforts, schools continue to face acute teacher shortages. At GMS Lengnyu, even with two community teachers, the number of classrooms exceeds available staff, with only one graduate teacher in service. GPS Kingniu functions with three teachers for six classrooms. PRSU urged the government to provide adequate teachers and infrastructure to address these gaps.
The Union also highlighted irregularities among some government-appointed teachers, including random absenteeism, failure to follow leave procedures, non-maintenance of attendance registers, and lack of professional commitment. PRSU stated that such negligence cannot be overlooked and called upon teachers to uphold their professional responsibilities.
