Organisation flay alleged assault on WCYO president

DIMAPUR, MAY 6 (NPN): Tenyimi Youth Organisation Dimapur District (TYODD), Western Sumi Youth Front (WSYF), and Western Chakhesang Youth Organisation (WCYO) have strongly condemned the alleged assault on WCYO president Wekupe Therie at United Village, Chümoukedima, on May 2, 2026.
In a press release, TYODD president Khrozote Kapfo and general secretary Asungbe Hau stated that the assault was allegedly carried out by Inato Chishi along with his associates. Describing the incident as deeply disturbing, TYODD said such violence against a responsible youth leader could not be viewed as an isolated case, and warned that repeated occurrences raised serious concerns about law and order.
While acknowledging the arrest of one accused, the organisation expressed concern that four other individuals involved were yet to be apprehended. It further alleged that Inato Chishi had been involved in similar cases in the past, making the matter more alarming.
TYODD has demanded immediate and decisive action from the authorities to arrest all those involved and ensure strict legal action. It cautioned that any failure to act would embolden such elements and erode public confidence in the justice system.
The organisation also called on all sections of society to unite against violence, reaffirming its commitment to peace and harmony while asserting that it would not remain silent in the face of injustice. It also prayed for the speedy recovery of Wekupe Therie.
WSYF: Western Sumi Youth Front (WSYF) also vehemently condemned the assault on the WCYO president, reportedly carried out by five individuals on the night of May 2 at Naga United Village.
In a statement, WSYF joint secretary Botoka Zhimo described such acts as cowardly and unacceptable, and criticised the tendency to take the law into one’s own hands.
The organisation stressed that differences, regardless of their severity, must be resolved through dialogue and lawful means.
While noting that an FIR had been lodged and one accused arrested, WSYF pointed out that four others remained at large. It urged law enforcement agencies to take immediate steps to apprehend the remaining accused and ensure timely justice.
WSYF expressed sympathy with the victim and his family, and prayed for his full and speedy recovery. It also reiterated its commitment to peace, unity, and the rule of law, urging all sections of society to uphold these principles.

WCYO: Western Chakhesang Youth Organisation (WCYO) has strongly condemned the alleged physical assault on its president and vandalism of his vehicle at Naga United Village, Chümoukedima on May 2 night.
In a statement, WCYO said the incident occurred between 8:30 pm and 9 pm when its president was allegedly assaulted and his vehicle damaged by a group of individuals who obstructed his passage.
The organisation termed the act as unacceptable and unjustified, stating that such violence not only undermined unity but also created fear within society. It added that the use of force and destruction of private property reflected a level of aggression that had no place in a civilised society.
WCYO has called on law enforcement authorities to carry out a prompt and thorough investigation and ensure that those responsible are held accountable under the law.
