NMDA to join nationwide bandh on May 20

DIMAPUR, MAY 6 (NPN): Responding to the one-day nationwide bandh call by All India Organizations of Chemists & Druggists, the Nagaland Medicine Dealers Association (NMDA) has announced decision to join the bandh on May 20 from 6am to 6pm. In a press note, NMDA president Ato Yepthomi and joint secretary & in-charge press & media Arijit Sharma stated that the decision was in protest against several long-pending and critical issues impacting the pharmaceutical trade and public health. NDMA said key concerns included the unchecked operation of illegal e-pharmacies, predatory pricing practices by large corporates, and the continued enforcement of certain government notifications issued during the COVID-19 period.
The bandh aims to urge authorities to take immediate corrective measures, ensure fair trade practices, and safeguard both public health and the livelihood of over 12 lakh chemists and their dependents throughout the country.
In Nagaland, NDMA said that pharmacies attached to government and private hospitals and nursing homes would remain exempted from the bandh.
The association has appealed to the government for urgent intervention and has expressed hope for a constructive resolution through dialogue.
All district chemists & druggists associations of NMDA have been requested to comply with the bandh.
