Sotokur renamed as Thsotoku village

DIMAPUR: A formal ceremony marking the renaming of Sotokur to Thsotoku was held at Thsotoku village on May 6, inaugurated by EAC Shamator (Additional Charge, Thsotoku Circle), Mekato J. Aye.
According to a EAC Shamator, the renaming was carried out in accordance with government order following due process and collective representation from the community. During the programme, EAC Mekato J. Aye laid the foundation stones for a commemorative monolith and the newly established Thsotoku Citizen Union Office.
In his address, Mekato congratulated the village council and leaders for their efforts in preserving and asserting the identity of the village. He remarked that names are not merely labels but carry memory, belonging, and direction.
Highlighting the meaning of Thsotoku, he noted that the elephant symbolizes strength, wisdom, and steady progress, and expressed hope that the village would reflect these qualities in its collective journey.
He further emphasized that while a name gives identity, it is the people who give meaning to it through unity, responsibility, and shared progress. He encouraged the community to move forward together, uphold their roots, and ensure that the village is known not just by its name but by its spirit and development.
Short speeches were delivered by Head GB Tokimong, VCC Thsotoku Kiuthsang, and Citizen Union president Kheanjimong. The programme also included a prayer by Pastor K. Yimto and concluded with a renewed sense of identity and commitment among the people of Thsotoku.
