DIMAPUR, MAY 8 (NPN): The Gauhati High Court Kohima Bench on April 30, 2026 directed the Nagaland government and the Union government to file their respective affidavits in connection with a writ petition filed by 1,161 Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS) Hindi teachers over alleged non-inclusion in the state cadre and salary irregularities.
According to a press release issued by the CSS hindi teachers convenor, the matter, which came up before Justice Pranjal Das, has now been listed for further hearing on June 4, 2026.
The petition was filed by 1,161 Hindi teachers appointed in government schools across Nagaland, alleging prolonged delays and irregularities in payment of salaries despite being regular appointees.
The petitioners also raised concerns over denial of parity with other state employees, non-inclusion in the state cadre and lack of financial security.
During the hearing, counsel for the petitioners, Sourjya Das, submitted arguments on behalf of the teachers. The Court observed that the respondents, including the State Government and the Centre, had not yet filed their affidavits.
The Additional Advocate General appearing for the State sought time to obtain instructions and place the response on record.
Taking note of the submissions, the Court directed the respondents to obtain necessary instructions and file their respective affidavits for proper adjudication of the matter.
The release stated that both the State Government and the Central Government are now expected to submit their affidavits on or before the next date of hearing.
It may be recalled that the High Court had earlier issued notice to both the State and the Centre after hearing the matter, marking the beginning of judicial scrutiny into the grievances raised by the CSS Hindi teachers.
