Chennai, May 9 (IANS): PMK founder Dr. S. Ramadoss on Saturday urged Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar to immediately invite TVK chief C. Joseph Vijay to form the government, citing the extraordinary political situation prevailing in the state following the Assembly election results. Ramadoss stressed that the democratic mandate delivered by the people must be respected without delay, asserting that the single largest party should be given the opportunity to form the next government. Tamil Nadu has been gripped by intense political uncertainty since the declaration of results, with TVK emerging as the single largest party but falling short of the majority mark in the 234-member Assembly. Vijay’s party has since been engaged in discussions with several opposition parties and alliance partners to secure the necessary support to stake a claim to government formation, with Congress and the Left parties having already extended or signalled their support to the Vijay-led formation in the interest of political stability.
In a direct and significant appeal, Ramadoss called upon Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) president Thol Thirumavalavan – whom he described as his “younger brother” – to extend support to TVK, saying such a move would reflect the true aspirations of the people of Tamil Nadu. “If Thirumavalavan extends his support, the Governor should formally invite Vijay and administer the oath of office to him as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu,” Ramadoss stated. He urged the VCK leader to take a decision keeping in mind the larger political situation and public sentiment, adding that such a step would honour the people’s verdict and pave the way for a stable government at the earliest. With all eyes now on the VCK leadership’s next move, the political suspense over government formation in Tamil Nadu continues to intensify.
