DIMAPUR, MAY 9 (NPN): Joint Council Forum (JCF), comprising NST Colony, Churches Colony and Middle Point, has questioned the alleged locking down of a business establishment at Churches Colony by a student body over allegations relating to manipulation of MRP, GST and other business-related practices, stating that such actions should be left to competent authorities under the law.
In a press statement, issued by its media cell, the forum said that while every citizen or organisation had the right to raise concerns against alleged irregularities, it was equally important to uphold the rule of law and respect the authority of agencies legally entrusted to handle such matters.
Questioning whether it was the role of any student body or pressure group to unilaterally lock down a business establishment, JCF stated that if organisations began taking enforcement actions on their own, the role and relevance of lawful authorities and the administrative system would be undermined.
The Joint Council Forum maintained that allegations relating to business malpractice, taxation, GST, MRP manipulation or any public grievance should be formally reported to the competent law enforcement agencies and government departments for proper investigation and necessary action in accordance with the law.
It further pointed out that every locality functioned under recognised local institutions such as councils, chairmen, GBs and other administrative bodies, and noted that even during official operations conducted by competent authorities, local bodies were often informed for coordination and maintenance of public order.
The forum stated that it was inappropriate for any organisation or group to undertake unilateral coercive actions outside the framework of law.
The Joint Council Forum stressed that no organisation, irrespective of its intentions, should take the law into its own hands, warning that such actions could create fear, disrupt public order and undermine established institutions of justice and governance.
The forum asserted that all issues and grievances must be resolved peacefully, responsibly and strictly through the existing legal framework.
