DIMAPUR, MAY 11 (NPN): Pfuchatsumia Youth Organization (PYO) has expressed concern over the deplorable condition of the road stretch from Huorii River near Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Kohima to Keyake BSF Camp Junction along NH-150, alleging failure on the part of the department and contractor to undertake repair works despite repeated appeals.
In a press release, PYO president Thejanguzo Pienyü and general secretary Khriesamhalie Mere stated that representations had been submitted to the chief engineer PWD (National Highway) since November 17, 2023, including letters dated April 15 and April 16, 2025, highlighting the condition of the road and seeking immediate intervention.
PYO alleged that despite written assurances, neither the concerned department nor the contractor had taken any concrete action to repair the road.
According to PYO, the road stretch had become nearly impassable, severely affecting daily commuters and witnessing frequent mudslides and accidents on several occasions.
It stated that repeated appeals highlighting the serious safety concerns posed by the hazardous stretch had been brought to the attention of both the department and the contractor responsible for its maintenance, but no action had been initiated so far.
PYO therefore issued a final notice granting the department and the concerned contractor till May 21, 2026 to immediately commence proper and durable repair work on the said road.
Failing this, PYO warned that it would be compelled to democratically and peacefully prohibit all government registered vehicles, as well as heavy vehicles, from plying along the stretch from Huorii River near Don Bosco HSS, Kohima to Keyake BSF Camp Jn. on NH-150 until necessary repairs were carried out.
PYO further stated that responsibility for any escalation arising thereafter would rest entirely with the department and the concerned contractor.
