Zhaleo Rio emphasises collective preparedness for monsoon season

DIMAPUR: Advisor of Urban Development & Municipal Affairs and chairman of District Planning & Development Board (DPDB), Zhaleo Rio, has called upon all departments and stakeholders to remain prepared for the upcoming monsoon season and ensure proper clearance and maintenance of drainage systems to prevent waterlogging and flooding. He was speaking at the monthly DPDB meeting held at the DPDB Hall, Chumoukedima, on May 11.
According to DIPR report, the meeting, attended by deputy commissioner Polan John, heads of departments and board members, deliberated on several developmental agendas concerning education, infrastructure and administrative matters.
Zhaleo urged authorities to take timely preventive measures in vulnerable areas to minimise risks and inconveniences to the public. He directed that information and awareness on monsoon preparedness be disseminated to colonies, wards and villages so that citizens remain alert and cooperative. Stressing collective efforts, he appealed to all departments to coordinate and work together for effective preparedness and response mechanisms.
On developmental planning, the advisor emphasised that initiatives should cover the entire district and not remain concentrated in one area. Referring to the existing railway station at Sukhovi, he said strategic planning and organised development must begin now in preparation for future growth. He further stressed the need for systematic and balanced infrastructure expansion and long term urban planning across Chumoukedima.
The police department was directed to strictly regulate and enforce speed limits to ensure road safety and prevent accidents. Zhaleo emphasised regular monitoring, awareness campaigns and coordinated enforcement measures, particularly in accident prone and crowded areas.
Among the agendas discussed were recognition of Cinnamon Pre School at Ward II, Chumoukedima, and registration of Yimkhiung Baptist Borü Naga United Village. Proposals for upgradation of schools included Appleseed Pre School at Sugar Mill to a primary school, Dovecot Christian School (DCS), Seithekema to an upper primary school, and Government Middle School ‘C’ at Seithekema to a government high school. The board also discussed proposals for establishment of a government degree college at Medziphema and a district transport office for Chumoukedima.
A PowerPoint presentation was delivered by the deputy commissioner of police, Chumoukedima, on district matters, while another presentation was given by the department of sericulture.
