ATMA conducts trainings, demonstrations for farmers

DIMAPUR: Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) carried out a series of activities across Chümoukedima and Mon districts, including trainings, demonstrations, farm school inauguration and exposure visits.
CHÜMOUKEDIMA: ATMA Medziphema block, in collaboration with ICAR–Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Dimapur, conducted an awareness cum training programme on biofertilizers and sustainable agriculture at Sochunoma village on May 11. Resource person, chief technical officer KVK, Dr. Bendangla Imsong, highlighted biofertilizers as cost effective and eco safe alternatives to chemical fertilizers. She also inaugurated a dragon fruit farm school, encouraging farmers to explore its cultivation potential. Demonstrations were held on seed treatment using biofertilizers, integrated pest management for fall armyworms, soil sample collection using zig zag method, and maize bean intercropping techniques. Inputs including biofertilizers, biopesticides, maize and bean seeds, and dragon fruit saplings were distributed to 16 farmers.
Aboi block: ATMA conducted a training on “Package of Practices of Solanaceous Crops” at PM SHRI GHSS Aboi on May 6. Students were trained on nursery bed preparation, transplanting, biofertilizer application and integrated pest management.
Mon block: A training on Integrated Pest Management (IPM) was held at Tuimei village on May 7. Resource person ATM Manlen Longcha elaborated on eco friendly pest control methods. Pheromone traps, neem oil and sprayers were distributed.
Wakching block: An exposure visit to Langto Tea Estate and Industry at Sangsa village, Tizit, was organised on May 8, where participants learned tea cultivation and post harvest management. On May 6, a capacity building programme on balanced fertilizer use was conducted at Wakching Chingla village by BTM Roseline Pusa.
Angjangyang block: ATMA conducted a demonstration on oyster mushroom production technology at Angjangyang Government High School on May 7. BTM Nemchaba Jamir interacted with students on sustainable agriculture, while ATM Longerkaba Ao gave hands on training. Topics on nursery bed preparation, IPM and low cost vermicomposting were also covered.
