DIMAPUR, MAY 15 (NPN): Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kohima, B. Henok Buchem, has issued an order suspending the movement of heavy vehicles with 10 wheels and above along the Kohima-Mao section of National Highway-2 due to safety concerns over weak bridges in the area.
The order issued on May 12, 2026 stated that decision was taken following official communications received from NHIDCL regarding the condition of several bridges along the highway stretch.
Structural assessments reportedly found that bridges located at Chainages Ch. 194+700, Ch. 198+680, Ch. 200+020, and Ch. 210+100 were structurally weak and posed a potential public safety hazard.
In view of the risks involved and to prevent further structural damage, the order stated that the restriction on heavy vehicles would come into effect from May 18, 2026, and remain in force until further notice.
DC warned that violators would face prosecution under relevant sections of the law.
DC further directed NHIDCL authorities to undertake urgent repair and restoration works on the affected bridges in the interest of public safety and smooth movement along the highway corridor.
