IMPHAL, MAY 16 (NPN): Manipur chief minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Saturday announced that the permanent campus of the National Sports University (NSU) at Koutruk, Imphal West, is set for inauguration by December this year.
Assessing the progress of ongoing infrastructure works, Singh informed that construction of the administrative block, academic wing, hostels and other major facilities were nearing completion. He said the university was poised to emerge as a premier centre of sporting excellence in the country. During his visit, the chief minister was received by NSU vice‑chancellor Daljit Singh Chaudhary, retired IPS and former BSF DG, along with senior officials. He chaired a meeting where National Building Construction Corporation Limited (NBCC) assistant general manager Anirban Roy briefed him on the current status of construction.
The new campus will house 60 faculty residential units and a multi‑purpose sports hall. Singh assured that construction of the approach road would begin next week, while six bore‑wells would be dug as a temporary measure to address water shortage. He also pledged adequate security deployment if required.
Singh lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi for establishing India’s first dedicated sports university in Manipur, describing NSU as a proud recognition of the state’s rich sporting legacy. He said the campus would have an intake capacity of around 1,300 students, with the project targeted for completion by year‑end.
The chief minister was accompanied by MLAs Heikham Dingo Singh, Tongbram Robindro Singh, Imphal West DC Mayanglambam Rajkumar Singh and other senior officials. Later, he was felicitated by villagers at Koutruk community hall and assured them of addressing local grievances.
