DIMAPUR: National Dengue Day 2024 was observed in Mokokchung district on May 16 under the theme “Community Participation for Dengue Control: Check, Clean and Cover.” The programme was organised by the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP).
Awareness activities on signs and symptoms, modes of transmission and preventive measures were conducted across all blocks—Mangkolemba, Tuli, Alongkima, Tsurangkong and Changtongya.
At the CMO’s office, a dengue awareness programme was conducted by Dr. Martula Lemtur. Cleanliness drives were carried out in all health units and surrounding areas, which included draining stagnant water from flower pots, containers, discarded cans, tyres, gutters and other sites to eliminate mosquito breeding places.
Medical staff including MTS, MI, SI, CHOs, medical officers, staff nurses and ASHAs conducted house‑to‑house source reduction activities and awareness talks on dengue prevention.
Poster campaigns were carried out in villages, while interpersonal communication (IPC) activities were undertaken by NVBDCP teams and health workers to educate the public on maintaining cleanliness and preventing mosquito breeding.
In Phek, NVBDCP observed National Dengue Day with an awareness programme, miking and sensitisation drive on May 16 at the CMO’s conference hall. Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Rebecca Y. Sema, DVBO, briefed the gathering on the significance of National Dengue Day. Malaria consultant Khrusayi Khamo spoke on signs, symptoms, preventive measures and control of dengue fever, while informing that miking would be carried out across the district.
A mass sanitation drive was also conducted at Meluri across all wards. The programme was attended by staff of the malaria programme from all blocks.
