Nagaland Police badminton team wins 12 medals at All India Police Badminton

DIMAPUR, MAY 17 (NPN): The Nagaland Police Badminton Team delivered a stellar performance at the 2nd All India Police Badminton Cluster 2026 held in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh from May 9 to 13. The 12-member contingent showcased remarkable skill and determination, securing a total of eight gold medals, two silver medals, and two bronze medals, finishing 4th in the overall medal tally.
Sports Officer Joseph Sumi, successfully defended his titles in three categories — GO Open Men’s Singles, GO 45+ Men’s Singles and GO Open Men’s Doubles (partnering Emmanuel Shohe) — marking his second consecutive triumph.
Other standout performances included – Dr. Sentinukla & Vesuzolo Swuro winning silver in GO Open Women’s Doubles. Tajenkaba earning bronze in Non-GO 45+ Men’s Singles and Men’s Doubles (with Raju Chetri) along with silver in Mixed Doubles (with Imlirenla). Imlirenla clinching gold in Non-GO 45+ Women’s Singles and doubles gold with Uma Tamang in Non-GO 40+ Women’s Doubles. Uma Tamang also secured gold in Non-GO 40+ Women’s Singles. Bendangnaro & Uma Tamang captured gold in Non-GO 35+ Women’s Doubles, while Bendangnaro added another gold in Women’s Singles.
The team expressed gratitude to Director General of Police Nagaland, Rupin Sharma and senior officers at the Nagaland Police Complex, Chumoukedima, for their support in enabling participation at the national event.
