WOKHA, May 18( NPN): A five-day training programme on improved production technologies in floriculture commenced at the KVK Office Conference Hall, Wokha on May 18 under the Tribal Sub-Plan (TSP) project aimed at strengthening tribal farming systems through critical input support and technology backstopping.
Addressing the inaugural programme as special guest, DPRO Wokha, Lolano Patton, spoke on the growing opportunities in floriculture for self-employment and entrepreneurship among youth. She encouraged the participants to make use of the training to enhance their skills and knowledge while stressing the importance of discipline and dedication.
Highlighting the scope of floriculture, she also spoke on the various uses of flowers ranging from medicinal purposes to fragrance industries and business ventures.
She further emphasized the importance of digital marketing in expanding market access and suggested forming a Flowers Growers Association in Wokha district for better coordination and sustainable growth.
Speaking on the objectives of the programme, Dr. Mhalo Tungoe said the training would cover different aspects of floriculture, including exposure visits, awareness on government schemes, skill development, and value addition.
Delivering the keynote address, senior scientist and head, ICAR-KVK Wokha, Dr. Sandeep Deshmukh, highlighted the importance of technology support and critical input assistance in strengthening floriculture practices in the district.
He encouraged the trainees to make the best out of the training for sustainable livelihood.
The programme will feature practical sessions, interactive discussions, and exposure visits to promote floriculture practices and entrepreneurship among the participants.
