DIMAPUR: In a coordinated intelligence-led operation, Kohima Police on Sunday arrested two alleged underground operatives involved in extortion activities in the state capital.
According to PRO, Kohima Police, specific intelligence inputs were received regarding the movement of certain underground faction members in the Main Town area on May 18. Acting swiftly, police personnel launched discreet technical and physical surveillance in the town.
Following sustained surveillance, two accused persons were apprehended from the Razhii Point area. The arrested individuals have been identified as Kudukhoyi Vero (38), self-styled “Chaplee Finance Kilonser” of the FGN (Rhakho group), and Mulevo Khesoh (35), self-styled “Colonel” of the NNC/FGN (Akavi Chishi group). Both are residents of Phezoucha, Kohima, and originally hail from Phek district. During the operation, police recovered several incriminating documents from their possession, including 14 nos. of “Yearly Vehicle Tax” slips, one “Non-Local Tax Receipt,” three unserved “Information Letters” issued in the name of the self-styled Chaplee Finance Kilonser, two served and three unserved “Annual Commercial Tax” documents, 10 unserved “Residency Registration” slips, and one “Assignment Order” issued in the name of the self-styled Kedahge of FGN (Akavi Chishi).
Following the arrests and recoveries, a case has been registered at North Police Station for detailed investigation into the alleged extortion racket.
Police stated that the accused are currently under sustained interrogation to uncover the wider network, including other operatives, financiers, and possible links to extortion activities in other districts.
Kohima Police appealed to citizens and business owners to report extortion demands without fear, assuring that the identities of informants would be kept strictly confidential. The police further reiterated their commitment to making Kohima “terror-free and extortion-free.”
