Patna, May 19 (IANS): A man identified as Sandeep Das, a native of Dalkhola in West Bengal who had been working at a poultry farm in Chandanpatti, allegedly killed his wife Phool Kumari Das, 30, and their three children in a brutal attack using a baton and sharp-edged weapons during a domestic dispute in the Chandanpatti area under the Pator Police Station jurisdiction in Bihar’s Darbhanga district at around 5 a.m. on Tuesday. His wife and two children died on the spot, while the third child succumbed to injuries during treatment at Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital. Police sources indicated that the couple frequently engaged in heated arguments, and on Tuesday morning another dispute broke out between them which allegedly escalated into fatal violence. After carrying out the attack, the accused also attempted to take his own life and sustained injuries, and is currently undergoing treatment at the same hospital where he is reported to be out of danger.
Police reached the spot promptly after receiving information and have initiated an investigation, with the bodies taken into custody and sent for post-mortem examination. A Forensic Science Laboratory team has been called to assist in the investigation, and the district police have seized the weapons used in the crime. The police are waiting for the recovery of the accused to record his statement and accordingly lodge an FIR against him, with the exact cause of the dispute yet to be determined. The incident has sent shockwaves across the region, raising serious concerns about domestic violence and mental health, and stands as one of the most gruesome cases of domestic violence to emerge from Darbhanga district in recent memory.
