DIMAPUR: National Dengue Day was observed at the Conference Hall of the Chief Medical Officer’s Office in Wokha on May 16 under the theme “Community Participation Dengue Control: Check, Clean and Cover.”
According to a press release by CMO, Wokha, the programme was organised by the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP) with the objective of strengthening preventive measures ahead of the monsoon season and encouraging public participation in controlling dengue transmission.
Chief Medical Officer, Wokha, Dr. Thungchangbemo Ezung highlighted the significance of National Dengue Day and expressed concern over the increasing number of dengue cases in the district. He encouraged health staff to ensure testing of all suspected dengue cases and work diligently towards controlling the disease.
DVBD consultant Wokha, Wezolo Medo, presented the dengue situation in the district, noting an upward trend in cases over the past four years. He also created awareness on dengue transmission and preventive measures.
As part of the observance, the NVBDCP Wokha, in collaboration with the District administration, municipal affairs, council chairmen, and village health and sanitation committees, conducted sanitation drives and cleared mosquito breeding grounds.
The programme also included community outreach activities at the block level, poster campaigns, and promotion of protective measures such as the use of mosquito nets, wearing long-sleeved clothing, and adopting personal protection strategies.
