DIMAPUR, MAY 19 (NPN): In an effort to address persistent flooding in the Airport area, large-scale drainage clearance and waste removal operations are currently underway at Sugarmill Nalluh under the supervision of the East Dimapur Town Council (EDTC) entering two- days.
Speaking with Nagaland Post, EDTC chairman Nuito Awomi informed that four JCB excavators and one poclain machine have been deployed to clear blocked drains and remove accumulated debris from the nallah. He said the extracted waste and silt are being dug out and left to dry before disposal.
Awomi stated that overflowing drains and indiscriminate dumping of garbage have significantly worsened the flooding situation in nearby localities, particularly along the airport stretch.
Expressing concern over the growing waste management crisis in East Dimapur, he pointed out that the Sunrise Colony dumping site under the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) has not yet been reopened.
In the absence of an alternative dumping facility, many residents have reportedly resorted to disposing of garbage along roadsides and in open spaces.
He further informed that the issue is currently under process with the State Government, while cleanup and restoration efforts are expected to continue over the coming days.
