NE United beat Mohammedan SC 2-0

GUWAHATI, MAY 19 (AGENCIES): NorthEast United FC produced a composed performance to defeat Mohammedan Sporting Club 2-0 in their Indian Super League 2025–26 encounter on Tuesday. The Highlanders capitalized on home advantage at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium, earning three crucial points that strengthened their mid-table position.
NorthEast United began brightly, pressing high and dictating the tempo. Their persistence paid off in the 23rd minute when striker Parthib Gogoi latched onto a through ball from Emil Benny and calmly slotted past Mohammedan goalkeeper Padam Chhetri to open the scoring. The goal lifted the hosts, who continued to dominate possession and create chances.
Mohammedan SC struggled to find rhythm, with their attacking duo of Adison Singh and Makan Chothe kept quiet by a disciplined NorthEast defense marshaled by captain Michel Zabaco. The visitors’ best opportunity came late in the first half, but Hira Mondal’s header sailed narrowly over the bar.
The Highlanders doubled their lead in the 68th minute. Substitute Jithin MS made an immediate impact, cutting inside from the left flank before unleashing a powerful strike that beat Chhetri at his near post. The second goal effectively sealed the contest, as Mohammedan failed to mount a significant response in the closing stages.
With the win, NorthEast United climbed to 15 points from 12 matches, consolidating their push for a top-half finish. Mohammedan SC, meanwhile, remained at the foot of the table, enduring another setback in their battle against relegation.
