Network glitches disrupt calls across Nagaland

Staff Reporter

DIMAPUR, MAY 20 (NPN): Mobile network disruption has been reported from several parts of the State over the past few days, particularly in Dimapur and Kohima, with consumers reporting repeated call failures, poor voice quality and unstable connectivity.
A poll conducted by this Reporter, followed by telephonic interactions with respondents, indicated that subscribers of Bharti Airtel reported the highest number of issues, followed by Reliance Jio, Vodafone Idea and BSNL.
When contacted, several respondents stated that calls were frequently not getting connected on the first attempt and that they had to dial two to three times before a call could go through. Respondents informed that even after connection, there was a noticeable delay in voice transmission, while voices were often cracking or breaking during conversations, making it difficult to understand the other person. Some also said the voice quality was unclear and would intermittently drop, while others mentioned that calls would suddenly disconnect midway.
Another common problem faced by consumers was instances of cross-connections, where calls reportedly got connected to another number.
Several respondents said that due to these issues, they were relying more on WhatsApp calls using Wi-Fi, as mobile network-based calls were not dependable. However, they added that this was only possible when connected to a stable internet source.
During the course of filing this report, this Reporter also experienced similar issues while contacting respondents, as calls did not get connected on the first attempt and required multiple redials.
With Bharti Airtel receiving the highest number of complaints in the poll, this Reporter contacted the company’s customer care service.
The customer care executive acknowledged a “temporary network issue” and stated that the problem would be resolved within four hours. However, at the time of filing this report, respondents contacted again by this Reporter stated that the network problem continued.
