NTC demands fast-track probe in Wilfred case

DIMAPUR, MAY 21 (NPN): The Nagaland Tribes Council (NTC) has renewed its demand for speedy justice in the alleged sexual harassment case involving suspended Investment and Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN)joint secretary Reny Wilfred IAS, accusing the state government and judiciary of delaying action despite repeated allegations against the officer.
In a joint statement NTC president C Pankathung Lotha and general secretary C Onen Walling, recalled that Wilfred had earlier faced similar allegations during his tenure as deputy commissioner of Noklak in 2021-22. However, instead of strict disciplinary action, he was only transferred to the IDAN. The council alleged that the transfer amounted to a reward rather than punishment.
The NTC further claimed that fresh allegations involving women employees surfaced again during 2023-24 and described the alleged conduct as “habitual, irresponsible and intentional.” It alleged that despite earlier accusations, the officer continued with the same behaviour without regard for the feelings and dignity of women employees.
The council also criticised Wilfred for reportedly taking the matter to court against the women complainants after allegations were raised, terming the move as “blackmailing” and an attempt to intimidate the victims.
Referring to observations reportedly made by senior Supreme Court lawyer Vrinda Grover during her visit to Nagaland in relation with the case, the NTC claimed she had criticised the delay tactics and the state government and judiciary of not doing enough in the matter.
The council noted that several Naga women organisations and civil society groups had protested against the government’s handling of the case. It maintained that suspension of the alleged offender alone was insufficient and urged authorities to expedite the legal process and ensure justice without further delay.
