NSDMA forecasts t-storm, heavy rain

DIMAPUR, MAY 22 (NPN): Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has issued a weather advisory warning of thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds and heavy rainfall in several districts of Nagaland from May 23-26, 2026.
In a press release, NSDMA stated that thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, gusty winds reaching 30-40 kmph and heavy rain were likely in parts of Peren, Dimapur, Kohima, Wokha and Mokokchung districts on May 23 and 24.
NSDMA stated that Zunheboto, Longleng, Mon and Tuensang districts were also expected to experience thunderstorms with lightning during the period, while no warning has been issued for Phek and Kiphire districts.
On May 25, it said thunderstorms with lightning were likely at isolated places in Peren, Dimapur, Kohima, Wokha, Mokokchung, Longleng and Mon districts. However, weather conditions were expected to remain generally stable across the state on May 26.
In view of the forecast, NSDMA has advised the public to avoid taking shelter under trees and near electric poles during thunderstorms, stay away from water bodies and exercise caution while travelling, particularly in landslide-prone and low-lying areas.
NSDMA also urged citizens to follow weather advisories issued by IMD and district authorities for latest updates.
