Lucknow, May 23 (IANS): A doctor and hospital operator identified as Vijay Kumar Giri has been arrested for allegedly raping a female patient inside the Operation Theatre of Tejas Hospital in Lucknow’s Indaurabag area, police confirmed on Saturday. The complaint was received at Bakshi Ka Talab Police Station on May 21, with the victim’s side alleging that the woman, who had been admitted to the hospital on May 19 for medical treatment, was sexually assaulted while her treatment was underway. Police acted swiftly upon receiving the complaint, reaching the hospital premises and initiating an investigation, following which Case No. 189/2026 was registered under Section 64(2)(e) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita along with Section 3(2)(5) of the SC/ST Act. During interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed to the crime and sought forgiveness for his actions.
Evidence collection was carried out promptly, with the clothes allegedly worn by the accused during the incident seized as part of the investigation. Following his arrest in accordance with legal procedures, the accused was produced before the court and subsequently remanded to judicial custody. Giri, a resident of Rajnapur village under Tambaur Police Station in Sitapur district, had been residing at Tejas Hospital at the time of the incident. Further investigation into the case is currently underway.
