DIMAPUR: Administrative Training Institute (ATI), Government of Nagaland, organised a two-day training programme on “Awareness on Child Mental Health” for government school teachers of Kohima district on May 21 and 22, 2026 at ATI, Kohima.
The programme aimed to equip teachers with essential knowledge, practical skills and intervention strategies to identify, understand and address mental health concerns among school-going children. Sessions covered topics such as mental health and common disorders, childhood mental health issues, Psychological First Aid (PFA), counselling skills for teachers, emotional well-being of teachers, counselling practice, Child Helpline 1098, vulnerable children and child mental health concerns in Nagaland.
Resource persons included Veronica Nriame, Psychiatric Social Worker, DMHP NHAK; Ketuosenou Phewhuo, Clinical Psychologist; and Neingutounuo Kulnu, Helpline Administrator, Child Helpline 1098, WCD Control Room, Nagaland.
Interacting with participants, ATI Director General and Additional Chief Secretary (Agriculture) & APC V. Shashank Shekhar, spoke on the growing mental health concerns among school children and the challenges faced by teachers. He stressed the need to integrate modern education with cultural and moral values to address such issues.
Altogether, 36 teachers from 16 government schools of Kohima district participated in the training, which also provided an interactive platform to deepen understanding of child mental health challenges and supportive approaches within schools.
