IMPHAL, May 24: Manipur chief minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Sunday said, “We must forget the past and move forward towards development in the state,” while asserting that the unprecedented crisis in the state has caused hardship to all the communities.
Singh made the remark during a visit to a relief camp of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) at Pravabati College in Imphal West district. At the relief camp, the chief minister provided a financial assistance of Rs one lakh to an IDP family member currently facing serious health issues.
Upon his arrival at the college, the chief minister was accorded a warm welcome at the fitness centre in the college campus where he interacted with the representatives of IDPs and the college student’s union.
Later, the chief minister went to Charoipung Playground at Mayang Imphal and inaugurated the newly constructed “Multipurpose Indoor Hall” under the Khelo India Scheme.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister motivated the young players and said that India’s sports were not complete without the presence of players from Manipur.
He added that once a player, he or she is always a player, despite ups and downs in their life.
Speaking on the crisis in Manipur, he said, “We must forget the past and move forward towards development in the state”, he said.
He encouraged the people to form Self Help Groups (SHGs) as the government has already sanctioned around Rs 350 crore, which could be of help at the time of “Ningol Chakouba” festival.
The chief minister also distributed commendation certificates and plaques to the players and coaches who have brought fames to the state and announced that the indoor stadium will be opened for the people.
Singh also inaugurated 100 bedded girls’ hostel, eight class rooms, library, science and craft block of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) at Heigum Yangbi of Mayang-Imphal.
The chief minister also visited a 100 bedded hospital under Wangoi Subdivision and took stock of the status of the ongoing construction work and interacted with the local womenfolk and assured them that the hospital would soon be made functional. The chief minister also interacted with the All Mayang-Imphal Muslim Youth Development Organisation (AMIMYDO), at the AMMYDO Bengoon ground and the proposal for the construction of a volleyball court will be looked into.
While delivering his presidential speech at the inauguration of Multipurpose Indoor Hall, at Charoipung Playground there, state home minister Govindas Konthoujam stated that the Mayang Imphal Constituency has witnessed a significant change during the last few years in terms of education, sports and communication as the people of this constituency has elected a young and dynamic leader.
“To elect a young leader is very beneficial for the people,” he said.
Lauding the players of Mayang Imphal Constituency, the home minister stated that the players from this constituency have brought laurels not only for the state, but also for the country.
He also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for establishing National Sports University in the state, in recognition of the state’s potential in the field of games and sports.
