Training on balanced fertilizer use, natural farming held at Hazadisa

DIMAPUR: As part of the nationwide intensive awareness campaign on adoption of science-based nutrient and input management, a training programme on balanced use of fertilizers and natural farming was conducted at Hazadisa village in collaboration with ICAR–Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Dimapur, Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Dhansiripar block, and District Agriculture Office (DAO), Chümoukedima.
According to a press release from ICAR, the programme aimed to create awareness among farmers on sustainable soil and nutrient management practices, focusing on judicious fertilizer application and eco-friendly methods to improve soil health and crop productivity.
Resource person Dr. Bendangla Imsong, CTO (Plant Breeding), KVK Dimapur, highlighted the importance of balanced fertilizer use for maintaining soil fertility, reducing input costs and achieving sustainable agricultural production. She cautioned that excessive and imbalanced fertilizer use could adversely affect soil health and crop yield in the long run.
E. Lireni Kikon, ACTO (Plant Protection), KVK Dimapur, spoke on the benefits of integrated nutrient management, green manure crops and natural farming. She encouraged farmers to cultivate green manure crops to enhance soil organic matter, improve nutrient availability and reduce dependency on chemical fertilizers.
Around 30 farmers actively participated in the programme, interacting with the resource persons and gaining practical knowledge on sustainable agricultural practices.
