CUD, CSUD, CTD condemn alleged sexual assault of minor

DIMAPUR, MAY 27 (NPN): Various Dimapur-based Chang organisations have condemned the alleged sexual assault and physical abuse of a minor girl in Dimapur.
CUD: Chang Union Dimapur (CUD) alleged that the act was perpetrated by one Watimeren, a resident of Lengrijan colony Dimapur, alias O. Watt on numerous occasions and termed the incident as heinous and unacceptable in any civilised society.
The union stated that abuse and exploitation of a minor violated fundamental human rights and caused severe emotional, psychological and physical harm to the victim. In light of the development, CUD appealed to law enforcement agencies to book the accused under relevant legal provisions. The union also expressed solidarity and support for the victim and called upon all sections of society to condemn such crimes.
CSUD: Chang Students’ Union Dimapur (CSUD) also strongly condemned the alleged sexual exploitation and physical assault of the minor student, a bonafide member of the union, by one Watimeren.
In a press note, CSUD executive chairman Yempokumba Chang and executive secretary Khongtenhongang alleged that the minor student had undergone serious mental trauma and physical assault, and stated that such a heinous act violating basic fundamental rights was unacceptable. CSUD said the incident was also an attack on the peace and security of the community and underscored the need for justice through strongest and immediate action.
They urged law enforcement agencies to conduct a fair, prompt and thorough investigation into the matter and ensure strict legal action against the accused in accordance with the law. CSUD said the incident highlighted the urgent need for stronger preventive measures and accountability mechanisms to safeguard children from abuse and exploitation, and added that society as a whole must stand united against such crimes and work collectively to ensure justice and safety for all children.
CTD: Condemning the alleged sexual assault on a minor student by Watimeren, Chang Tokhu Dimapur (CTD) alleged that that the accused had also repeatedly threatened the victim at gunpoint and administered drugs before allegedly committing sexual assault on multiple occasions.
In a press note, CTD vice president Bendangmenla and finance secretary Narojungla said that the patter of violence had caused severe psychological trauma and social stigma to the victim.
CTD alleged that the motive of the accused appeared to be gratification of his own depraved sexual desires and condemned the act as inhuman. CTD called upon law enforcement agencies to conduct a fair investigation and punish the accused as per the provisions of law, while also appealing to all right-thinking citizens to condemn the crime.
