DIMAPUR: Lotha Students’ Union (LSU) has expressed concern over irregular attendance and deviations from prescribed working hours by certain government employees during its recent inspections of various offices in Wokha district.
In a press release, LSU president S. Zubenthung Ngullie, vice president N. Chipenthung Kikon and general secretary Nyanthung M. Khuvung said the union carried out the inspections to assess institutional discipline and service delivery.
Appreciating the dedication of doctors and staff at Dr. Motsuo Memorial District Hospital (DMMH), Wokha, the union, however, expressed concern over irregular attendance and deviation from prescribed working hours by some personnel. Taking note of acute manpower shortages and infrastructural constraints faced by the hospital staff, the union said it would formally take up those issues with the responsible authorities.
LSU said similar lapses in adherence to official working hours were observed in other government offices.
The union reminded all government servants of their duty to serve the public with punctuality and diligence.
LSU said it also submitted a representation to deputy commissioner (DC) Wokha demanding stricter implementation of the inner line permit (ILP) in the district. Further, the union raised concerns over inadequate parking facilities and poor road safety for students along NH-2, particularly near educational institutions due to heavy traffic and lack of pedestrian crossings. LSU urged the administration to implement traffic management measures and deploy personnel in school zones.
LSU further warned business establishments against employing underage children and said violators would be reported to the authorities under relevant labour laws. The union called upon heads of departments to enforce discipline and assured the public that it would continue to act as a bridge between citizens and the administration.
