GPRN/NSCN (U) questions State govt’s role in Naga issue

DIMAPUR, MAY 28 (NPN): GPRN/NSCN (U), led by president ‘gen.’ (Retd) MB Neokpa Konyak and ato kilonser Alezo Venuh, has questioned the Nagaland government’s role in the Naga political issue, alleging continued insincerity and political interference in the peace process.
In a statement through its MIP, the group criticised recent remarks by chief minister Neiphiu Rio and minister G. Kaito Aye, terming them “political face-saving exercises” insensitive to Naga aspirations. It maintained that Nagaland was founded on Naga customary institutions and traditions, which cannot be overridden by the state government or legislature.
The group said the government should function only within the limits prescribed by Naga customary institutions and accused it of attempting to control tribal bodies and GBs.
It further alleged that the NPF and present state government were prolonging the peace process to preserve political relevance and delay a final settlement, despite the Government of India declaring the talks concluded on October 31, 2019.
