Single use plastics banned in Noklak

DIMAPUR: In view of the serious environmental hazards posed by plastic waste, the District Administration Noklak, in compliance with the notification of the Urban Development Department, Government of Nagaland, has announced a ban on single use plastics within the jurisdiction of Noklak Town Council with effect from June 5, 2026.
According to DIPR report, the banned items included all single use plastic carry bags irrespective of thickness, size or colour, and single use plastic bottles used for drinking water and soft drinks with a capacity of less than one litre.
Violations of the notification will attract penalties, with fines of Rs. 10,000 for the first offence, Rs. 20,000 for the second offence, and cancellation of trade license or permit for subsequent offences. Regular checking and inspection will be carried out by the enforcement team to ensure strict compliance, and any violation detected will be dealt with as per the penalty provisions.
All vendors, commercial establishments, institutions and organisations have been directed to discontinue the use, sale, storage and distribution of the banned items.
The public has been encouraged to adopt eco friendly alternatives such as cloth bags, jute bags and reusable water containers.
The administration sought the cooperation of all stakeholders in making Noklak a cleaner, healthier and more environmentally responsible town.
