Education is one of the most important foundations for the future of every child and society. In Nagaland today, many parents are facing serious difficulties because private school fees are becoming too expensive and unequal across different districts. Every year, admission fees, tuition fees, annual fees, smart class charges, examination fees, and other miscellaneous charges continue to increase without proper regulation.
Many poor and middle-class families struggle to pay school fees. Some parents are forced to take loans, while others cannot provide quality education for their children despite working hard every day. Education should never become a burden only because of financial inequality.
At present, there is no equal fee structure among private schools in the state. Some schools charge very high fees while others charge moderate amounts. In many cases, parents are not clearly informed about why fees are increased every year. This situation creates inequality among students and puts mental and financial pressure on families.
The Government of Nagaland and the School Education Department should seriously consider introducing a proper fee regulation policy for all private schools in the state. A School Fee Regulation Committee may be formed to examine and approve fee structures before implementation. Such a system will help maintain fairness, transparency, and accountability.
Private schools play an important role in providing quality education, and they also have operational expenses. However, fee collection should remain reasonable, balanced, and affordable for ordinary citizens. Education must not become a business that only wealthy families can afford.
The government may also consider: • Fixing a standard fee guideline district-wise or state-wise.
- Restricting unnecessary annual fee hikes.
- Making fee details publicly transparent.
- Providing protection for economically weaker families.
- Encouraging equal educational opportunities for all students.
Education is a basic right of every child, and no student should suffer or discontinue studies because of unaffordable school fees. In many districts, private schools are charging different rates without any proper regulation or monitoring system. This creates inequality and places heavy pressure on middle-class, poor, and daily wage earning families.
The Government of Nagaland and the School Education Department to kindly:
Introduce a uniform and regulated fee structure for all private schools in Nagaland.
Form a Fee Regulation Committee under the School Education Department to monitor and approve school fees.
Prevent unnecessary and arbitrary increase of school fees every year.
Ensure transparency in fee collection and prohibit hidden charges.
Provide relief and protection for economically weaker families and students.
Maintain equal and fair educational opportunities for all children in every district of Nagaland.
The future of Nagaland depends upon educated young generations. Therefore, both the government and private institutions must work together to ensure that education remains accessible, fair, and affordable for every child regardless of economic background.
A balanced and equal school fee system will bring relief to thousands of parents across Nagaland and help build a stronger and more educated society.
