According to the graphics shared by Rio, Census 2027 would be India’s first digital census and would be conducted in two phases. The first phase– House listing and Housing Census– would include self-enumeration from June 16 to 30, 2026, followed by house-to-house listing from July 1 to 30, 2026.
The second phase involving population enumeration is scheduled for February 2027. Information related to population, family details, literacy, education, employment, migration and fertility would be collected during the exercise.
It also highlighted that Census 2027 would include caste enumeration of household members and stated that the use of digital tools would help ensure faster data collection, improved accuracy and quicker availability of census results.
Citizens were also informed about the self-enumeration portal– se.census.gov.in– through which households could fill in census details themselves before verification by census enumerators during field visits.
