DIMAPUR, MAY 29 (NPN): Alleged accused in the sexual assault case, involving a minor girl in Dimapur, was brought under the custody of the police.
According to sources, the accused, Watimeren Jamir alias O. Wati, who had earlier sought for anticipatory bail, reportedly surrendered before the authorities after the anticipatory bail was cancelled.
He was produced before the court and taken into police custody, paving the way for police to proceed with further investigation into the case.
The case had triggered widespread condemnation from various civil society organisations, student bodies, women organisations and tribal bodies, which demanded immediate arrest of the accused and strict legal action under relevant provisions of the law, including the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
While condemning the incident, Dimapur-based Chang civil society organisations had asserted that the case would not be compromised under any circumstances and assured full cooperation with the authorities in ensuring justice.
