Goalpara, May 29 (PTI): At least three persons died and another was critically injured after inhaling suspected poisonous gas while cleaning a septic tank in Goalpara district of Assam, police said on Friday.
The incident took place at Goraimari village in Agia police station area, where a septic tank was being built for home use by a person.
“The tank was closed for more than three months. As soon as mason Krishna Roy entered, he fainted. To rescue him, assistant Dilip Das entered the tank and he became unconscious, too,” Goalpara West Co-District SP Abhilash Barua said.
The owner of the house Josak Rabha also entered the tank and soon met the same fate, the officer said.
“All the three died on the spot. One person is admitted to hospital and he is critical,” he said.
Further investigation is underway, Barua added.
