WOKHA, MAY 29 (NPN): The inaugural programme of the Wokha District Futsal Championship 2026, organised by the Wokha District Football Association (WDFA), commenced on May 29 at Arena X, Wokha Town, with 14 registered teams vying for the title.
Gracing the occasion as the special guest, president of the Wokha District Sports Association, Yanrenthung Humtsoe, expressed delight over the launch of the tournament. He noted that futsal has emerged as one of the fastest-growing sports, contributing significantly to the promotion of football in Nagaland and across India.
Humtsoe highlighted the growing enthusiasm and talent in Wokha district, encouraging the association to continue promoting the sport. He urged players to remain disciplined, avoid intoxication and unhealthy practices, and uphold commitment to their careers. He also appealed to stakeholders and spectators to support the players responsibly, stressing that active participation in sports can help transform society and strengthen community bonds.
Delivering the keynote address, president of WDFA, N. Samuel Ezung, informed that the championship is being organised under the directive of the Nagaland Football Association (NFA). He announced that the champions of the tournament will represent Wokha district at the upcoming 5th Nagaland Futsal Club Championship 2026, scheduled for June and hosted by the Football Association of Tseminyu District.
Earlier, the invocation was offered by CCM of St. Paul’s Parish, Robolo Shitiri, while the tournament was formally declared open through a ceremonial kick-off by the special guest.
