DIMAPUR: Divisional Management Unit (DMU), Wokha under the Nagaland Forest Management Project (NFMP), funded by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), held its annual review meeting for 2025-26 at the Forest Colony Community Hall, Wokha on May 29. The meeting brought together district administration officials, forest department personnel, JFMC presidents and members, SHG representatives and FNGOs to review activities of the past year, share experiences and chart the way forward.
The meeting was chaired by Suman W. M. Sivachar, DFO cum DMU Head Wokha, who delivered the welcome address and briefed the agenda. Key attendees included SDO Civil Echungbemo Erui, EAC Probationer Vilhoumenuo Tetso, FMU Heads Grace Kikon (Wokha Range) and Lansothung Lotha (Doyang Beat), along with DMU support staff, FNGOs (Natural Nagas), Village Council members, JFMC presidents and SHG representatives from Batch I–IV villages.
Presentations highlighted nursery status, forestry interventions, register maintenance, livelihood activities, monitoring findings, success stories and challenges. FNGO team leader Ethel Odyuo detailed SHG revolving fund supervision, business plan preparation, JFMC assessments, forestry intervention models and capacity building initiatives. JFMC presidents and SHG representatives also shared experiences and updates on income generating activities. As per assessment data, Niroyo Village JFMC was awarded Best JFMC, while Longaro SHG of New Changsu Village received the Best SHG award.
Representing the district administration, SDO (Civil) Echungbemo Erui suggested measures including selecting plantation areas away from roadsides, signing MoUs with village communities to prevent encroachment, pursuing convergence in livelihood activities with allied departments, collaborating with Disaster Management to address forest fires, and motivating youth to participate in skill development training.
Suman W. M. Sivachar expressed appreciation for the valuable insights shared and assured that DMU Wokha would address highlighted shortcomings in coordination with PMU. He commended the collective efforts of FMU Heads, DMU staff, FNGOs, JFMCs and SHGs.
