DIMAPUR: Naga Hospital Authority Kohima (NHAK) has successfully undergone the National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS) MusQan National Assessment on April 17 and 18, 2026, and was granted National MusQan Certification on May 18, becoming the first among district hospitals in Nagaland to achieve the recognition.
The assessment was conducted by empaneled NQAS national assessors Samiran Sarma (Assam) and Krishna Kumari Sharma (Sikkim), with facilitatory support from nodal officers Dr. Asano Sophie (Dy. CMO Kohima), Dr. Imnanoktsung Longchar (DQM Kohima) and Dr. Longri Kichu (Sr. Public Health Consultant, HEOC).
Under the leadership of Dr. Rüütuo-ü Sorhie (Consultant, HOD Paediatrics), Dr. Khriemenuo Koza (Sr. Specialist, Paediatrician) and Dr. Avono Sophie (Sr. Specialist, Paediatrician), the Paediatrics Department achieved an overall MusQan score of 93.11%. The Paediatrics ward scored 88.68%, OPD 91.28%, Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) 96.32%, Nutrition Rehabilitation Centre (NRC) 95.81%, and patient satisfaction 84%.
MusQan, an initiative of the Government of India, aims to improve quality of care for children up to 12 years in public health facilities, ensuring delivery of child-friendly healthcare services and reducing preventable newborn and child morbidity and mortality.
Its strategies include Emergency Triage Assessment and Treatment (ETAT), Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC), Infection Prevention Control (IPC), biomedical waste management, clinical protocols, record keeping and family participatory care.
NHAK stated that the certification reflects the commitment, dedication and teamwork of the Paediatrics Department, MusQan team and staff in enhancing paediatric healthcare services. The achievement marks a major milestone in the hospital’s pursuit of excellence in child healthcare and quality service delivery.
