DIMAPUR, JUN 3 (NPN): Two men arrested in a case registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act have been remanded to police custody as investigators intensify the probe.
According to Dimapur police PRO, the case was registered at Women Police Station Dimapur after the minor victim’s guardians lodged an FIR on May 25, 2026. It has been registered under Sections 64(2)(f)(i)(m), 65(1), 71 and 74 of the BNS, read with Section 6 of the POCSO Act.
The accused were identified as O. Watimeren Jamir (43) of Unger village and resident of Lengrijan village and Tsuktimongba Ao (37) of Sungratsu village and resident of Razaphe Industrial village. Both were produced before the court and remanded to police custody for interrogation. Given the case’s sensitivity, police have constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by a senior officer.
Meanwhile, police appealed to the public and media to strictly respect the privacy and dignity of the minor victim and refrain from sharing any information that could reveal the child’s identity, including name, age, address, school, photographs or other identifying details. Police also cautioned that disclosure of a minor victim’s identity constituted a criminal offence punishable under Sec 72 of the BNS, Sec 23 of POCSO Act and Sec 74 of JJ Act.
Police assured that investigation was progressing swiftly and in accordance with due process, adding that every effort was being made to complete the probe and file the chargesheet without undue delay.
