DIMAPUR, JUN 4 (NPN): The Tenyimi Union Dimapur (TUD) has urged the Manipur government and the Centre to take immediate steps to secure the safe release of six individuals reportedly held hostage since May 13, allegedly by Kuki militant group.
In a press release, TUD warned that failure to address the issue promptly could fuel public unrest and further strain relations between the Naga and Kuki communities. It called upon all stakeholders to exercise restraint and pursue a peaceful resolution through dialogue and lawful means.
Expressing solidarity with Naga communities affected by the ongoing situation in Manipur, TUD and its frontal organizations said they were deeply saddened by the loss of lives, displacement and suffering experienced by many families.
The union reiterated its commitment to protecting the rights, security and welfare of the affected communities and strongly condemned the reported abduction of the six Naga men.
TUD has demanded their immediate and unconditional release and urged the authorities to ensure their safe return at the earliest.
Further, TUD noted that many Kuki settlements were located within areas traditionally inhabited by the Tenyimi people and reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the rights, interests and security of the Tenyimi community. The union has cautioned against any actions that could lead to encroachment, violence or harm to any community. It warned that such developments could aggravate tensions and undermine peace and stability in the region.
The union also asserted that any further escalation, encroachment or unlawful activities within ancestral Tenyimi lands would not be tolerated. TUD has called upon all responsible to respect the historical, traditional and customary rights of indigenous Naga communities and refrain from actions that could threaten communal harmony.
TUD has urged the authorities to act decisively, impartially and in accordance with the law to ensure the safety of all concerned and maintain peace and stability in the region.
